2019 NFL Draft Profile: QB Will Grier, West Virginia

A vocal leader on the field, Will Grier showed the flash, fire and grit necessary to make it in the NFL while at West Virginia. He checks in at No. 24 on PFF's big board and is eager to prove that he can take the reins of an NFL team and lead the way.

Grier was unstoppable from a clean pocket this season. He posted a 132.6 passer rating and 28 big-time throws on 342 clean dropbacks while limiting the mistakes with only seven turnover-worthy plays. He used his attacking mindset to tear apart opposing coverage en route to 34 touchdowns.

Grier’s game seems to be built for the modern-day NFL offenses running RPO’s and hard play action. More importantly, he gets rid of the ball quickly with 57.4 percent of his throws coming in less than 2.5 seconds. He posted a 70.2 percent completion percentage, a 123.5 passer rating and a 23-to-4 touchdown-to-interception ratio on said throws.

Grier must win from the pocket in the NFL. He has shown the ability to climb the pocket when edge rushers get home, but when moved outside the pocket, he struggles. He had a lowly 53.9 passer rating outside the pocket and only completed 43.8 percent of his throws to go along with a 35.2 overall grade.
