Jets, first-rounder Adams agree on contract

  • The New York Jets officially signed first-round pick and sixth overall pick of the 2017 NFL draft Jamal Adams Thursday. Adams was highly regarded entering the draft ranking as the No. 1 safety and the No. 6 overall prospect on the PFF big board.
  • Adams’ ranked as the best safety last year with a PFF overall grade of 89.2. He also graded as the fourth best run defender with a grade of 83.1, and had the fifth-best coverage grade, at 88.7.
  • The LSU product had 15 stops in coverage last year, tied for the third-most stops among 256 safeties (a stop is regarded as a tackle resulting in a “win” for the defense). He was also one of the best tacklers in the class with a tackle efficiency of 11.1, which ranked 32nd.
