  • In an interview with NFL Total Access, Tampa Bay Buccaneers fifth-round rookie Jeremy McNichols said that he he works “daily” with his receivers coach ahead of training camp.
  • McNichols is coming off a productive season in college, that earned an overall PFF grade of 87.7, ranking third of 199 qualifying running backs. He racked up 1,709 yards and 23 touchdowns.
  • The passing game figures to be the easiest way for McNichols to play immediate snaps in his rookie year. In college in 2016, his 1.88 yards per route run ranked sixth of 21 draft-eligible running backs with at least 25 targets and his drop rate of 4.88 ranked eighth. In 2015, he caught all 51 catchable targets he saw.
  • McNichols will compete with Charles Sims for the workload behind Doug Martin and Jacquizz Rogers. Pass protection can often keep young backs off the field, but McNichols ranked fifth in pass-blocking efficiency in 2016, surrendering just 1 sack and 4 total pressures on 115 pass-blocking snaps.
