- The Oakland Raiders announced on their website that safety Obi Melifonwu has been placed on injured reserve. Offensive lineman Denver Kirkland was also placed on IR, and the team signed linebacker Xavier Woodson-Luster and safety Erik Harris.
- Melifonwu was the Raiders second-round pick in 2017. He only played in one preseason game this year, getting 22 snaps against Dallas and recording a 78.0 overall PFF grade.
- In 2016 at UConn, Melifonwu's 82.2 overall PFF grade ranked 20th out of 346 qualifying safeties. He only missed nine tackles in 116 attempts, the third-fewest missed tackles for any FBS safety with 100-plus attempts.
